After recording Hyper Nonsense 149/Erk Pod 179, Jen went to bed and Shawno and I were still a bit buzzed not to mention hungry. So we went to the only place that would be open in SLO at 2am, Denny’s.
So off we went to Denny’s. We arrived and hadn’t even ordered when we were given a bill. Now that’s service! Too bad it wasn’t for our table! Once the bill was on the right table, we ordered and had a nice meal.
We then went back to sleep to eat day 5. After a nice sleep, I woke up and packed up and said goodbye to Shawno.
I headed downtown for sounveirs but before that, I took photos of the “Official Level Crossing of Hyper Nonsense and Shawnogram”, the main Fire Station and some FLOOED signs. While waiting at a set of traffic lights, I heard sirens and saw one of SLO’s Fire Engines behind me and pass me rather quickly. I followed for as long as I could at normal road speed but could not keep up. Then I saw the truck down a side street.

Using a “Crazy Lane”, I did a u-turn and after a few more turns, I found the truck. There was no house fire so obviously it was at an EMS (medical) call. So I got some photos and I could hear more sirens. Soon enough, an Ambulance arrived so I got photos of that, too. The guys were obviously busy so I left.

I then headed downtown and found the SLO Chamber of Commerce. I got some merchandise and the ladies behind the counter thought I was either Scotish, Irish or French until I told them I lived south of the Equator. One then guessed correctly. I left then but returned with Channel Erk cards.

After this I went to get fuel and found that I had to pre-pay. This was my first time filling the Jeep so I had no idea how big the tank was or how much it would take to fill it up. The lady behind the counter said to give her some money and if need be, she’d give me change. It ended up costing $27.78 for 11.299 gallons.

With my Navman set for Monterey, I headed north along US 101 again and started listening to book 1 of JC Hutchins’ 7th Son podiobook. It was very good for the trip and I listened to the first 5 or so chapters. The scenery was very nice, too.
I pulled into McDonalds for some food and they have a menu system for their Drive Thru that is different as you order by number there. On the way, I saw a semi trailer with the slogan “Jesus Christ is not a swear word” on the side and back of it. I passed one and when I saw a second one, I decided to pull behind it and get a couple of shots. There seems to be a common theme running here!

After a nice drive, I turned off US 101 to head to Moneterey. With less than 10 minutes to go until my destination, I saw 3 Fire Engines from the City of Seaside Fire Department and had to stop and get some shots. I then spoke to some of the crew who were testing their pump on one of the engines.

After leaving the BRT’s (Big Red Trucks), I thought I’d made it to my destination but I was at the wrong yellow house. After I arrived at the right yellow house, I was greeted by David and Talli. I settled in and then we went for a drive downtown and had a look around town to show me the sights. We then had dinner. I had fish and chips & salad.

That’s Talli’s salad, in case anyone was wondering. After dinner, we returned home and I edited and uploaded my photos from the day and last night. Overall it was an enjoyable day.

I knew it wasn’t your salad, Erk.
Jesus trucking company? Seems like your trip has been blessed.
